Lecture: "Science and Culture: How Science Gets Things Right and Wrong", Prof. Anders Lindquist

"Science and Culture: How Science Gets Things Right and Wrong" is the title of the next lecture organized by the Confiucus Institute at the University of Padova with the support of Guangzhou University.

The appointment is on Friday July 12th, 2024 at 16.00 in the Library Meeting Room, in Via Beato Pellegrino 28.

The lecture will be in English.

The speaker is Prof. Anders Lindquist from the School of Artificial Intelligence of Anhui University, China. 

Abstract: Science evolves in historical steps in interaction with culture and is not always "correct". But Science is always in search of truth and approaches it. However, we need to be careful about accepting popular predictions about the future. 

Prof. Anders Lindquist received the Ph.D. degree from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in 1972, honorary doctorate from Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) in 2010, and doctorate jubilaris from KTH in 2022. He is currentrly Distinguished Professor at Anhui University, Chair Porfessor Emeritus at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Emeritus Professor at KTH. Before that he had a full academic carrer in the United States, after which in 1983 he was appointed to the Chair of Optimization and Systems at KTH. He is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and a Member of Academia Europea (Academy of Europe). He is a Life Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of SIAM, and a Fellow of IFAC. He received the 2009 Reid Prize in Mathermatics from SIAM, and the 2020 IEEE Control Systems Award, the IEEE field award in Systems and Control.
